Common questions

On iPad, my finger doesn't draw anything.

Your iPad is set so that only the Apple Pencil draws and a finger scrolls. Turn on “Draw with Finger” in the tool palette's ··· menu, or turn off “Only Draw with Apple Pencil” in the Settings app under Apple Pencil. On iPhone a finger always draws.

What does the eraser take off?

What you drew and painted: pen strokes, and the colour from “Fill”, “Spray”, “Ink brush” and “Stay-in-the-lines brush”, back to the picture the round started with — the AI's picture, a photo, or white paper. The AI's picture or a photo itself is the background: “Erase background” takes it back to paper. When the eraser takes nothing off, the app says so, and “Switch to Erase background” changes over to it. The eraser's smallest size is fixed by the system; zoom in to erase finer.

How do I zoom in?

Pinch with two fingers: up to ten times the whole-page view on iPhone. Every tool works zoomed in, and two fingers move the page.

How do I add words or a speech bubble?

Pick “Text” in the tool palette and tap where the words should go. Type them, choose plain text or “Bubble” and a size on the card, drag the words on the page to move them, then tap “Done”.

Can I copy part of a picture?

Pick “Copy” and draw a loop around the part you want. The copy appears just beside it: drag it into place, size it with the slider, and leave “Remove the paper” on to take out the paper colour around it; then tap “Paste”. To paste it again, into this drawing or another one, use Paste in the ⋯ menu. The copy stays on your device.

How does the stay-in-the-lines brush work?

Pick “Stay-in-the-lines brush” and paint: the colour stays inside the part where the stroke started and stops at the lines by itself. A stroke that starts on a line can't paint; start a little farther inside.

Can I move or delete text, a speech bubble or a sticker after placing it?

Yes. Pick “Text” and tap the text or bubble on the page (“Copy” and a tap for a sticker): it comes back as you left it, to move, change, or delete with the trash button. “Put back” puts it back where it was. Anything you painted over it since stays. Text and bubbles can be picked up again even after the app was closed; stickers until then. The eraser rubs them out too.

I went back to the gallery by mistake.

Open the same drawing again: its undo history is still there, as long as the app hasn't been closed and it is one of the last three drawings you opened.

What happens to a blank drawing?

If you go back without drawing anything, the blank drawing isn't kept in the gallery. One you drew on and undid back to blank is kept.

What does “Strength” do in AI Fix?

In “Whole picture” mode, “Strength” — Light, Medium or Strong — sets how much the AI may change the picture.

What uses an AI fix?

Each “Fix it” (on a circled part or the whole picture), each “Try again”, each “Describe it” and each “Circle a layout” uses one; “3 versions” and “3 more” use three. A request that doesn't come out isn't counted. “Extract lines” and all the drawing tools work on your device and use nothing.

Does it work offline?

Drawing, the tools, the history of rounds and the gallery all work offline. Two things need a connection: buying a pack, and the AI features, which send what you chose to our server to be drawn (see the privacy policy).

Do the AI fixes carry over to another device, or to SketchTutor?

No. The two included fixes and any packs you buy are counted on the device they were used or bought on, and DoodleFix and SketchTutor count them separately. Unused fixes are lost if you delete the app, and the two included fixes are not given again on the same device.

Where are my drawings stored?

Only on your device (they also appear in the Files app). DoodleFix keeps no copy anywhere else; deleting the app deletes them, apart from any iPhone or iPad backup you make yourself — see the privacy policy.
